Damon Albarn will play the iconic art-deco Great Hall at Queen Mary University of London for one of just two intimate dates in London to mark the launch of his first solo album Everyday Robots. The show will take place on 1st May 2014 in the 770 seat venue which reopened in 2013 following a multi-million pound refurbishment to restore it to its 1930s art-deco glory.
We are excited about our latest digital development project – the redesign of our Events & Hospitality QM website! With the evolution of digital being so fast-paced and new technologies emerging on a constant basis, we recognised the need to explore how clients and potential clients engage with us via our digital channels/platforms.
When you host your event at Events & Hospitality QM, there is a lot of magic that goes on behind the scenes that you may not immediately be aware of. One of the key teams that aids a smooth and successful event is the QML Portering team. Cliff Merry is the General Services Supervisor and responsible for the QM Portering team.
We are delighted to announce that our new catering menus are available now! These menus have been completely revised to offer a flexible range of options to suit every event. The cost of many items has been reviewed to make our menus more affordable in order to accommodate a variety of budgets. Our in-house team are also happy to work with you to produce a bespoke menu.
QM’s largest facility, the 770 seat art-deco Great Hall stepped into the limelight on Monday 23rd December when Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman paid homage to the days of dance bands in the 1920s and ‘30s in a new BBC 4 programme, which celebrates “when bandleaders were the Beatles of their day and syrup-voiced Al Bowlly became Britain’s answer to Bing Crosby”.
The Grade II listed Octagon at Queen Mary has proved once again its versatility when it comes to hosting events with the return of the BBC’s Question Time for a fourth time! Joining host David Dimbleby were Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander MP, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Rachel Reeves MP, Former Home Secretary David Davis MP, Professor of Classics Dr. Mary Beard and Broadcaster Nick Ferrari.
QM enjoyed another successful summer this year – thanks to you – our customers! Between Mid-June and mid-Sept we hosted 152 conferences & events, 2 weddings, 67,000 bed nights of accommodation and served almost 50,000 meals in our on campus catering outlets!! Working alongside QM's Sustainability team, Catering & Hospitality QM has been focusing on ensuring its food and sourcing meets the ethical and environmental demands of its customers, to demonstrate this, it has earned the Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark in recognition for The Curve and The Hive which serve close to 120,000 and 126,000 meals respectively.
Chris Jagger is the Catering Manager responsible for overseeing all food and drink outlets and hospitality for Catering & Hospitality QM – the in-house catering service here at the university. Having been in his role for just over a year, he talks about implementing industry-level standards consistently across all QM outlets with an emphasis on staff training, education and development.
Catering & Hospitality QM have secured a 5* rating in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in The Curve, Mucci’s and the SCR Café confirming that the outlets operate with a ‘Very Good’ level of hygiene. The scheme helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, cafes, takeaways, hotels and food shops
